1992 was a milestone year for the Club when the Clare County Council allocated a field on the Shannon Road in the village for the clubs use. Following negotiations regarding the arrangement for the transfer of the site to the club, the County Council gave permission for the Club to have access to the field to enable preliminary work to be carried out. The Council granted planning permission for the development of the field.
When the CCC allocated the field we set about assessing the work that needed to be done to secure the area, ie a suitable perimeter fence, provide a suitable playing and training area, dressing rooms and club house.
The field having been surveyed had a fall away of over 4 metres from the roadway to the bottom of the field and required 20,000 tonne of good quality fill to bring the area up to an aceptable level. Before bringing in any fill it was necessary to strip and stockpile the existing top soil for later use. This was achieved by hiring excavators and dump trucks to transport the top soil from the field area to a storage area.
The club set about locating suitable quality fill and after much work the club were able to secure the fill from Bunratty, Shannon and locally in Sixmilbridge. The club had to hire haulage units, excavators to load the material and bulldozers to spread the fill. In June 2001 the club finally had had the pitch up to the required level.
